Laos – monks and buddhas
In 2012 we were back in Luang Prabang, Laos, to visit our buddhist monk friends. Luang Prabang is very touristic with lots of restaurants and a huge night market. But it is also a very interesting town if you like to visit buddhist temples with their old buddha statues. Most of all we like the contact with the buddhist monks and novices. We went a few times back to see our friends again. This time we traveled with three monks/novices to their family’s villages, up in the North of Laos.
Every month at full moon, the monks have to shave their facial hair, even the eyebrows. They help each other with the shaving. Normally you are not supposed to watch this, but since we were so close with them, they stimulated me to take some photos. The large photo shows our friends before and after the shaving.
